PSA and BGS slab sizes: which case fits
PSA and BGS standard holders are different sizes: the BGS holder is shorter, wider and thicker than the PSA holder, so each needs its own case. That is why we make a PSA-only Graded Armor, a PSA Metal Armor and Armor Stand, and a separate BGS Metal Armor and Armor Stand. Other graders and thick holders are not supported.
Standard holder sizes (approximate)
| Grader | Width | Height | Thickness | Bastion Armor fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PSA | 3.16 in / 80 mm | ~5.3 in / 135 mm | ~0.27 in / 7 mm | Graded Armor (PSA), Metal Armor (PSA), Armor Stand (PSA)* |
| BGS (Beckett) | ~3.3 in / 84 mm | ~5.2 in / 131 mm | ~0.31-0.33 in / 8-8.5 mm | Metal Armor (BGS), Armor Stand (BGS)* |
| Other graders | n/a | n/a | n/a | Not supported |
| Thick holders (patch, relic, memorabilia, any grader) | n/a | n/a | Deeper | Not supported |
* Armor Stands hold a slab that is already wearing Graded Armor or Metal Armor, not a bare holder.
PSA has published 3.16 × 5.32 × 0.27 in for its standard-depth holder; we found no published Beckett spec, so the BGS figures are caliper measurements reported by case makers. Holder generations vary by about a millimetre, so measure if in doubt.
How big is a PSA slab?
PSA lists its standard holder at 3.16 × 5.32 × 0.27 in (about 80 × 135 × 7 mm). PSA’s 2024 holder kept the same exterior dimensions.
Are BGS slabs the same size as PSA?
No. By collector and case-maker measurements, BGS holders are about 4 mm shorter, 4 mm wider and 1-1.5 mm thicker than PSA holders, so they will not seat in a PSA-cut slot. Metal Armor (BGS) and Armor Stand (BGS) are cut to the BGS holder.
What do “standard” and “35pt” mean?
Card thickness is measured in points: 1 pt = 0.001 in (0.0254 mm), so 35pt is about 0.9 mm. In the case market, “standard” or “35pt” means the regular-depth holder graders use for ordinary cards. It is a market label, not a grader specification. PSA’s own limit for its standard holder is 40pt. Thicker cards (patch, relic, memorabilia) go into each grader’s thick holder, which is visibly deeper. Our cases and stands fit standard holders only.
How to tell a standard holder
If the card inside is a regular base or holo card, it is almost always a standard holder. Thick holders are visibly deeper and are used for memorabilia, patch and thicker premium stock.
